The club was formed in 1963, however it was not until 1974 that a clubhouse was finally built. Until 1974 the “clubhouse” was located in one of the bars of the White Hart hotel, this led to the club’s nickname of “The Stags” and the antlers on the club logo. The Club have always been successful, in the last 2 years we have won the Eastern Counties Division 4 South League title and were also voted runners up in the Rugby World Magazine’s Team of the Year competition. This tradition of success is one that we are striving to continue.

We are currently running 2 competitive sides; the 1st XV are competing in the Essex league and the Essex Region Merit Table and the 2nd XV compete in the 2nd XV Essex Region Merit Table. We also compete in various National Cup competitions, which

see players facing well known teams as they progress through each round. As with all sports, excellence is only achieved through practice, training and competition. Competition not only against other sides but also for places within the teams. This is why Witham Rugby Club lives by the motto “Never Enough” and is constantly looking to recruit players of all abilities to maintain our competitive desire and continue our upward progression through the league structure.

Whilst our primary goal is league supremacy, we pride ourselves on being one of the most friendly and welcoming clubs in the country. We have a team for everyone. Whether you are just embarking on your rugby career or simply want to enjoy your twilight years of playing, Witham has the team for you. The 3rd XV and the Vets regularly face local opposition, enabling newcomers to rugby to learn and develop the skills needed to progress, and giving the more senior players a chance to wind down their careers in a relaxed and enjoyable fashion.Following the final whistle the club’s motto takes on a whole new meaning. We possess one of the best clubhouses in Essex, featuring a well stocked bar with very reasonable prices, lounge and function room and host regular Club social events.

Under the watchful eyes of head coach Richard Harrison 'Lurch', the Junior Section at Witham Rugby Club is flourishing. From ages 7 to 17, Witham has the ability to safely train and coach the juniors. Any sport is important when growing up, providing basic fitness and a will to succeed, combined with a chance to develop lasting friendships. The Junior Section is heavily subsidised with

sponsors providing most of the kit required and if not providing it, contributing to the cost of the remainder. Our long-term future as a rugby club depends on a strong and healthy Junior Section. We are hoping that it will soon be possible to field 2 sides from each age group. To achieve this we do need to constantly encourage juniors to give rugby a go. We have recently visited local schools and colleges putting on demonstrations to bring rugby to a wider audience. However, the best way is for the juniors themselves to experience the game by attending one of our regular training sessions.

The club’s function room is well appointed with a capacity of 175. And is equipped with a fully stocked bar, lounge, kitchen and facilities. Ideal for birthdays, christenings, wedding receptions, parties, stag and hen nights.
