Strong performance - training put into action

All three senior Witham Rugby teams were in action on Saturday.

Witham 1st XV won a decisive victory, away against South Woodham 2nds, by 38 points to nil. After a messy first quarter played mainly in their own half, Witham re-established their all-round rugby game to dominate the rest of the match, scoring 3 tries in each half, through a combination of forward drives and more expansive, fast-running back play.

The Ladies team, playing away at Rochford, also experienced success, scoring their first ever competitive try. Fluid looping play in the back line allowed the ball to pass effortlessly up the left wing. A final pass out to scrum half Donna Grace saw her touch down in the far left of the field. Whilst the overall score line was heavily in Rochford’s favour (Rochford 58- Witham 5), it was encouraging to see the Ladies finally start chalking up points on the board.

Witham 2nd XV experienced a tough game at home against Basildon 2nds losing 48-0. A score that did not reflect the effort and skill demonstrated by the Witham team on the pitch.
