Haverhill were short of players and credit goes to them for bringing the 9 ladies they had available. With Witham lending 3 players, a 12 aside game kicked off in perfect conditions.
The home team went on the attack from that start. Haverhill were deep in their 22 when Larissa pounced on an isolated player to steal possession, and after a couple of phases she cruised through in the corner to open the scoring. Shortly afterwards, Jess took advantage of a perfectly executed backs move to score the first of her 8 tries. The next try was scored by Kelly, who was able to break through a tackle and outpace the covering defence. Kelly added another to keep the scoreboard moving. So far, the shape of the game was very much the forwards getting possession and running through phases to gain ground before releasing the backs. However, Thorey proved that she is hard to stop as she broke through for the first of her 4 tries. Ynvi missed a couple of the early conversions but once she had her eye in she added 20 points to the tally. Emma led from the front and was Forward of the day with Larissa being back of the day.
Credit and thanks go to 4 players who ended up playing for the opposition- they all put in some great shifts and their willingness ensure the best possible game. We also had 2 players making their debut- Amber and Kerry did not look like newbies at all. Thank you to everyone that cheered the ladies on. Next Sunday see Bishop Stortford coming to Witham. That'll be a tough game but our ladies are up for it.
