A morning packed with energy, teamwork and plenty of tries

The future of grassroots rugby was on full display this weekend as Witham Rugby Club’s U7 and U8 sides travelled to Colchester RFC to take part in a fantastic tri-club match alongside hosts Colchester and Harwich & Dovercourt.

In a morning packed with energy, teamwork and plenty of tries, the young players from all three clubs demonstrated exactly what age-grade rugby is all about — enjoyment, development and playing the game in the right spirit.

Witham’s young squad produced a superb performance throughout. Coaches and parents were delighted to see the players showing clear progress in their confidence with the ball, defensive effort and teamwork, reflecting the hard work put in during training sessions.

Across the games there was little to separate the sides, with a very even spread of results ensuring every team enjoyed their moment. Smiles were plentiful on the pitch and on the sidelines as players from all clubs celebrated tries, tackles and great passages of play.

The Witham players in particular showed real determination and commitment, supporting one another brilliantly and continuing to grow in confidence as the morning progressed.

Events like this highlight the strength of youth rugby in the region, giving young players the chance to develop their skills, make new friends and build a lifelong love of the game.

Witham coaches praised the effort of everyone involved, as well as the hospitality shown by the hosts.

With all three clubs heading home smiling, the matches provided to be a fantastic example of grassroots rugby at its very best — and a reminder that the next generation of players is in very good hands. ?
