Teams from across Essex joined Witham to play making it a memorable event

Sunday 5th November Witham U7 - U10’s participated in the Southend Festival.

All teams did really well, exhibiting perseverance, great sportsmanship, continuous improvement and using the skills from training in hard fought matches.

Teams from across Essex joined Witham to play making it a memorable event.

Witham as always can walk away proud of their performance and how they represented the club. All involved thoroughly enjoyed the day.

The coaches were all extremely proud with their thoughts highlighted below:

Under 7's
U7’s this morning exceeded expectations massively, we had 2 teams out today and both teams just seemed to click.

What a great morning of rugby by both our under 7s sides. Great team performances some good skills, communication and much improvement individually and more importantly as teams.

Under 8's
A fantastic day out at Southend, the team gave a great account of themselves, not least in showing much more sportsmanship than most opponents, along with fantastic running, try scoring and tagging. A long day with periods of downtime, but each time they stepped on the pitch the focus was there and improvement clear to see. They should all be proud of how they are playing as a team.

Under 9's
Even though a very early start, a 14 strong squad went to Southend festival. We played 5 games and Witham under 9s definitely turned up ready for rugby. After a very difficult week last week, the kids tackled their hearts out and scored some fantastic try’s.

With 3 wins and 2 draws, the coaches and parents couldn’t be more pleased with the teams effort and performance. Too many great individual performances to mention them all, but a special mention to:

  • Ivy Mai Jeffery for an absolute turn around in confidence making some great tackles and smiling all day long.
  • Harry Attenborough, after training only once with us, he was taken ill and spent a number of weeks in hospital. Now fully recovered he wanted to play, although nervous as he’d never played a game, he got involved and really enjoyed the games.
  • Ben Ponder, his second ever time on a rugby field a sight to be seen. We lost count of the try’s he scored and tackles he made and was the player of the day.

Well done all, a truly epic day.

Under10's
A huge effort from the magnificent 7 that stepped out on the pitch today. With no subs the U10's worked hard in every game. They battled, rucked and found space to score lots of try’s. Each one of them deserves a well earned rest after playing every second of every match. Onwards and upwards!
