Rugby is for everyone!

This season sees a big push from Witham RUFC to encourage girls to pick up a ball and enjoy the game. Women’s rugby is one of the world’s fastest growing sports and we at Witham would love to give girls the opportunity to join in.

Under RFU guidelines boys and girls can combine up to (and including) Under 11. This has meant that in previous years (from Under 12 and up) the girls of Witham had to find another team or wait until they could join the recently established ladies team.

With the determination of Junior Chair Kelly Davis this year is different. There are 7 young ladies aged 11 through to 17 who regularly get the opportunity to train on a Sunday like others of their age.

Continued efforts are being made to bring girls into the sport both by Witham, Essex Rugby and the RFU.

Pitch up and Play sessions are being organised so all players can experience games, these are being held across Essex and are open to all participating clubs - Witham have one of these sessions arranged for 10th December 2023. (more details to follow)

A new Essex Girls Under 12’s ambassador has been appointed. Tigan Renshaw is a player for Rochford and will be joining our coaches on 12th November for a training session with the girls.

Witham are reaching out to schools and offering substantial membership discounts to girls wanting to play.

If you are interested or you have a daughter/sister/friend in Senior school who’d like to give Rugby a try and follow in the footsteps of the Red Roses please contact us.
