Witham ladies played their second games in two weeks against Bexley ladies. Due to their game being cancelled extra boots on the pitch were supplied by Braintree Vixens.
Witham ladies started where they left off the previous game with strong attacking runs utilising both the forwards and the backs. A strong final tackle prevented Larissa Smith opening the scoring. But less than 5 minutes later, Lieze Prins scored the first of her 5 tries. Three more tries were scored in quick succession including one from Donna Grace, with Mel Jolly slotting two conversions.
Bexley created some decent pressure especially from their scrums, but strong Witham defence kept them from scoring. Turning back into attack a series of well worked moves saw the ball crashed up the middle and then brought out to the wings, creating scoring opportunities on both sides. Rachel Boyton showed good handling and support skills to keep the attack going up the left wing going, receiving the final pass to run in for her debut try. That brought the first half to a close at 39-0.
The second half opened with a try for Kelly Barlow. The visitors then slowed Witham’s attack for the next 20 minutes, absorbing attacks and forcing errors to gain possession. Bexley were incredibly unlucky not to score following a break away through the middle. An unfortunate handling error near the line meant they came away empty handed.
The final 10 minutes saw 3 more tries for Witham and a final score of 59-0. This is the biggest score line to date for the team, meaning they have surpassed last year’s league points total with three games left to play.
