Witham Ladies Rugby went into Sunday’s fixture knowing they faced a stern test against a strong Rochford Rugby Club side — and despite the 40–0 scoreline, the home team delivered a performance full of grit, teamwork and clear progress.
From the outset, Witham worked tirelessly in defence, holding Rochford for a sustained period and frustrating their attacking efforts. Communication was sharp, tackles were committed, and the team showed real unity across the pitch.
Although Rochford were able to convert their pressure into points, Witham created two excellent scoring opportunities of their own, coming agonisingly close to getting on the scoreboard. On another day, those chances could have shifted the momentum.
Importantly, heads never dropped. The squad continued to battle for every ball and support one another right through until the match was unfortunately cut short due to injury.
After the game, praise from the opposition highlighted just how far Witham have come. Rochford representatives commented on the noticeable improvement in Witham’s structure, physicality and confidence — a testament to the hard work being put in week after week.
While the final score read Witham 0 – Rochford 40, the performance told a much stronger story. The team left the field proud, encouraged and united — with clear signs that progress is firmly moving in the right direction.
